My name is Peggy Martínez. I reside in Green Bay, Wisconsin along with my husband and children. I co-own and operate a tour company that specializes in educational programs in over ten Spanish speaking countries. I also instruct and partake in group fitness classes at Western Racquet and Fitness.
I have always loved hikes and bike rides. But over time my responsibilities and commitments changed and I reached a point where I had gained weight and did not feel good about myself. On a hike in Mexico, I had one of my children on my hip and tripped ascending the rocks. My only concern was her safety and I tumbled to the ground and tore a ligament and broke bones in my right foot. I had to be carried to base on a gurney with several people assisting. Once I began to heal, I made a commitment to take better care of myself. I started with short walks and the elliptical, eventually graduating to other exercises and classes. My favorite ones are a legs class called Quarterbacks and a full body, metabolic, HIIT based class called Shock It to Rock #shockiTRI, both created and instructed by Kari Merrill.
Being active is a priority in my life and I not only feel the good it does me, but I see my children follow my lead. I remember that at any given moment someone can pull from what I am doing and find a spark of motivation for themselves to move more and do more. Small acts can become big changes and you never know how or when that moment will occur. Inspire and be inspired… full circle.
Everyone’s story is unique and constantly changing. You matter. Not everyone may see you or understand you but that is irrelevant. Feel good about yourself with every single breath. Love you for you. Run the mile. Some days you'll run shorter than others, but it’s there for you if you want it.
