All About Me:
I'm a single mom of two amazing daughters, ages 11 and 20. Originally, I'm from Sickerville, NJ...but for the last 9 years, we have lived in Wilmington, DE. By day, I am a paralegal for a medical malpractice firm in Berwyn, PA...by early dawn and weekend, I am a warrior.
When did you start your fitness journey?
I used to be very active as a kid -- a tomboy mostly, although I loved gymnastics, jazz and ballet dancing until I was in high school. I also ran Cross Country in High School but wasn't convinced running was for me. College came, my 1st daughter, my 2nd just a few years later...a whole lot of life changes and decades later here I was searching for something different. Obesity, hypertension, arthritis, gout all run in my family and somewhere in my early 30's I wanted to find a way to stay healthier. It worked for a while, but I was on my own and lonely until December 2012, when I found an incredible sisterhood in Black Girls Run! They reintroduced running to me -- I started with Couch to 5k - running through a BRUTAL winter, mostly on a track. I ran my 1st 5k with these ladies in March 2013 and never looked back. Running and connecting it with my faith has been a lifesaver for me. It has helped fight off depression after personal tragedy, it has been how I celebrate all things, good and bad, how I contemplate life, make plans for the "what's next?" and of course, spend time with friends. I also love weightlifting, the heavier the better actually and part of my goal is getting back to just that. A longer, leaner, stronger me - fit and healthy for a lifetime.
What inspires you to Move More and Do More?
Sometimes it is not just a what....it is about the who. I am inspired to find my fit by my children, for whom I want to stay active and healthy...and inspire them to live an active, healthy live as well. I am inspired to Move More by my parents. My dad passed away about 12 years ago from a massive stroke due to high blood pressure. My mother, who also lives with my daughters and I suffers from a host of ailments, although she has recently decided to take her fitness in her own hand. My journey has always included prayer to be a blessing to just one person, so I decided to Do More for those who couldn't, or who needed that one small voice, or word of encouragement to keep on going. My journey, my purpose has to be greater than me.
What is your favorite workout? Well, as you can see, I love running and of course, burpees! As for lifting -- I love any workout that includes total body work with squatsI I honestly also look forward to deepening my yoga practice too.
